FAQs

Eritreans who have been admitted to universities in Africa and Asia, where the Neberai Foundation can legally and openly dispense scholarship awards directly to the successful applicants, are eligible to apply.

Applicants must be enrolled in undergraduate (first) degree programs, including professional degrees such as medicine and law, on a full-time basis.

As long as one or both of your parents are Eritreans, you are considered an Eritrean for the purpose of the HNS.

The total amount to be awarded to each HNS winner is $4,000 (four thousand US dollars) to be dispensed annually in equal amounts over a period of four years.

Some degree programs in African and Asian universities last five years while others only four. Awardees with an outstanding record during the first four years of their study may petition for an additional year of funding if enrolled in a five-year program.

There will be two scholarships awarded each year. One is exclusively for women. The other is open to both genders.

Hajj Hummed Ibrahim Neberai was well known for his devotion to education in general and his unwavering advocacy of the unrestricted right of Muslim girls to education in particular, at a time when this was far from the prevailing social norm. Hajj Hummed’s children and grandchildren wish to honor this legacy by dedicating one of the two HNS awards exclusively to women.

The application can be found here. If you wish to apply and do not have consistent internet access, you may email hns.application@neberai.com for a PDF of the application, which can be completed offline, then scanned and returned by email.
